2012远东无损检测新技术论坛学术委员会主席简介

Lester W Schmerr Jr，世界无损检测中心联合会秘书长；美国爱荷华州立大学航天工程教授，无损评价中心副主任。

个人简历：自1969年起一直任教于美国爱荷华州立大学，自1989年起担任了位于爱荷华州无损评价中心的副主任；2003年起担任了世界无损检测中心联合会的常任秘书长。

Schmerr教授的研究主要在在超声波领域，重点是杆模型、缺陷散射模型以及缺陷尺寸测量，以及将人工智能方法与神经网络应用到超声无损检测模式识别等方面的研究。目前主要研究课题是超声相控阵体系建模及其在检测图像生成新方法中的应用。

学术专著与论著：

1、 “超声无损评价基础原理—建模方法” 1998年出版；

2、 “超声无损评价体系—模型与测量” 2001年出版（与  Sung-Jin Song合著）。

撰写多篇关于关超声波检测建模、人工智能方法、神经网络的超声检测模式识别的文章、程序和书籍章节。

Short Biography:

Professor Schmerr has been a faculty member at Iowa State University since 1969, where he is currently Professor of Aerospace Engineering. He is also served as Associate Director of the Center for Nondestructive Evaluation at Iowa State since 1989 and has been the Permanent Secretary of the World Federation of NDE Centers since 2003. He has published two books: Fundamentals of Ultrasonic Nondestructive Evaluation – A Modeling Approach, Plenum Press, 1998, and with Prof.  Sung-Jin Song,  Ultrasonic Nondestructive Evaluation Systems – Models and Measurements, Springer, 2001. He has published numerous papers, proceedings, and book chapters on ultrasonic NDE modeling and he has applied artificial intelligence methods  and neural networks to ultrasonic NDE pattern recognition problems. His work in ultrasonics has focused on beam modeling, flaw scattering modeling, and flaw sizing. He is currently engaged in modeling ultrasonic phased array systems and their use in new methods of image formation.
